TriStar Pictures is reported to be working on the idea of making a sequel to The Woman King starring Academy Award winner Viola Davis.

Sony Motion Picture Group co-star Josh Greenstein, president of TriStar Pictures, Nicole Brown, spoke lyrically about audience 

support for the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The critically acclaimed historical drama grossed an impressive

$19.1 million at the US box office on its opening weekend. Its success echoed online; the film scored a perfect 100 on Rotten Tomatoes.

Concrete discussion about a sequel was at this stage before the film had yet to premiere overseas and determined its

overall earning potential. When asked about the possibility of a followup to The Woman King, Brown revealed

it was a sequel. Such a question comes up quite often, and Greenstein was cautiously optimistic in his response:
